How does the Number field type work?
The Number field type extracts whole numbers only, with no decimal places.
What it does: • Extracts whole numbers (integers) • Strips units and text (e.g., "50kg" → 50) • Converts spoken numbers to digits (e.g., "forty-five" → 45) • Rounds decimals if accidentally provided
Best for: • Counts and quantities • Ages • Years • Item counts (reps, sets, items in stock) • Whole number IDs
Voice Examples: • "quantity twelve" → 12 • "patient age is forty-five years old" → 45 • "I did 15 reps at 225 pounds" → 15 (extracts the reps, not the weight)
Unit Stripping: The AI automatically strips common units: • "50 kg" → 50 • "25 years" → 25 • "100 items" → 100
Description Usage: ❌ The field description is NOT used in the AI prompt. The AI uses hardcoded extraction logic for numbers.
However, descriptions still help YOU remember what the field is for. They're shown in the field list and help with field identification during voice submission.
Number vs Decimal: • Number: Whole numbers only (use for counts, ages, years) • Decimal: Numbers with decimal places (use for prices, weights, measurements)
Example field setup: • Field Name: "Age" • Type: number • Description: "Patient age in years" (not used in AI prompt, but helpful for you)
